– It\’s a bit quite this time of year in the UK and quite a gap between the Middle-East Racing I am also involved with so thought i\’d post one of these up. As a driver coach I have always embraced technology such as data-logging and video, as far back as 1992 I was using video overlayed with data (which if I ever get off of VHS videoi I will post one day). Even today It seems I am ahead of other driver coaches in regard to integrating in-car instruction, data-logging and video. One of the methods I use is to produce an \’optimum lap\’ video. It is rare if not totally unheard of for a driver to drive a lap which contains all of their fastest sectors. Sectors are not the same as you will see in F1 which has only 3 sectors (this is for viewers only, not data analysis). I usually break a track up into sectors based on individual corner or corner sequences which often gives between 5 and 7 sectors and this is what you will find in any professional motorsport data-analysis. A driver will rarely if ever drive a lap that contains all his fastest sectors. A very experienced, professional driver will get fairly close but I have never seen a \’perfect\’ lap in over 20 years of driver coaching and data analysis. Even an experiences trackday driver will likely not get near to this, in fact I would say at least 50% of the time a drivers \’best actual\’ lap contains no more than a single \’optimum\’ sector and often NO best sectors. I can point out the best sectors and ……
